At the May 11,
2009 Village Board Meeting
the newly elected Trustees, Kinga Bartoszek,
John Fairman, Phil DePaola, re-elected Clerk
Kathy Svoboda and re-elected Mayor Kris
Wasowicz all took their Oath of Office.
The board meeting opened with outgoing
Trustees, Berkowicz, Gabrys and Jurgel being
presented plaques of appreciation for the
many years of service to the village. The
plaques were presented by Mayor Wasowicz on
behalf of the entire Village. Mayor Wasowicz
then introduced newly elected Judge Pat
Rogers who would be administering the Oath
of Office. Judge Rogers addressed the
standing room only audience and graciously
thanked them for the many years of support
during his tenure as the Lyons Township
Supervisor and for the support during last
Fall's election where he was elected as a
Judge. He also gave praise to the Village of
Justice Board and Mayor Wasowicz'
administration for all their hard work and
dedication in the amazing turn around that
the Village of Justice has gone through in
the past two years. The newly elected
Trustees were then brought forth for the
swearing in ceremony. Judge Rogers began in
the customary fashion and when he came to
the part of "upholding the laws" of the U.S.
constitution and of the Village of Justice,
he mistakenly spoke the "Village of
Bridgeview". Being a good natured person and
realizing his mistake he laughed along with
everyone in the room and explained that he
had just come from another Oath of Office
ceremony in Brookfield and he made the same
mistake. In becoming a Judge after being the
Township Supervisor for so many years,
dozens of requests have been made to him by
the municipalities, within the township, to
do the same ceremony, so one could
understand his confusion. He Gracefully
continued after the huge moment of levity
and when he got to the next sentence in
which he had to mention the Village of
Justice again, he paused and said "the
Village of Justice..... just like it says on
the huge wide screen monitor in front of me"
this brought forth another huge laugh for
all the attendees. After the Trustees, Judge
Rogers administered the Oath of Office to
Clerk Kathy Svoboda and to Mayor Kris
Wasowicz. When the ceremonies were complete,
Judge Rogers again addressed the audience to
thank them for the honor of doing the
ceremony and explained that he had to go do
yet another Oath of Office ceremony in which
he hoped that he wouldn't make the same
mistake. A brief recess was then called by
Mayor Wasowicz so everyone could enjoy cake
and coffee with their new board members.
Mayor Wasowicz
would like to thank Judge Rogers for
presiding over the ceremony and for all that
he has done for the Village over the years
as the Township Supervisor. He would also
like to thank him for making the occasion
even more memorable for all with his great
sense of humor.
This year's Spring Senior
Luncheon was held on March 17th, St.Patrick's Day at
the Lipinski Community Center. The Lipinski Center
was decorated in green with shamrocks everywhere.
The Seniors were greeted by Mayor Wasowicz, Clerk
Svoboda and Trustee Kranig. The over 100 Seniors
were treated to a fine St. Paddy's day meal that
included the traditional corned beef, cabbage and
potatoes,
as well as pork tenderloin, chicken, bread and salad. For desert there was
assorted cookies and of course a cake decorated with
a big shamrock which promptly turned everyone
tongues green! No one seemed to mind as there was
plenty of soda, water and fresh brewed coffee to
wash them clean. The surprise entertainment guest
was "Mike The Entertainer" from nearby Willow
Springs. Mike put on a show for the seniors that
consisted of musical impressions of favorites from
Dean Martin, Buddy Holly, Willie Nelson and what
impersonation show would be complete without Elvis!
He had the Seniors dancing at their tables as they
all enjoyed the show. All Seniors upon entering the
Lipinski Center received a numbered ticket and three
lucky Seniors went home with $10 gift cards from
Sears, Walmart and Jewel. Mayor Wasowicz, Clerk
Svoboda and the Village Board are proud to continue
this tradition of honoring our Senior residents with
the Spring and Fall luncheons. The Village and the
Seniors look forward to these luncheons and can't
wait for the Fall for the next one.
At Monday’s (Sept. 22nd )
Village Board meeting the Village of
Justice and the Lyons Township honored the
Justice Willow Springs Little League on
their District 15 Championship.
Mayor Wasowicz and Trustee Jeff Kranig
presented each of the players and coach
trophies. Lyons Township Supervisor Pat
Rodgers presented the team individual
achievement awards. Owner of the “ Why Not”
restaurant in Justice, Geno Randazzo
presented each of the team a $10 gift food
card in recognition of their achievement.
Family, friends and residents filled the
board room to witness the awards
presentation narrated by Treasurer Ed Rusch.

Several Snow
Storms hit the area pretty hard over this
winter season. The Public Works Department and its' employees
once again have done an outstanding job clearing our
streets of snow. While other municipalities in the
area were and are still struggling to clear their
streets the village's streets were clean. Public
Works employees were out early and often to get the
job done in a timely and professional manner.
One could notice the difference when driving from another town then
driving through Justice.
Many residents have called the Village Hall, Mayor
and Trustees to express how good of a job the Public
Works Department did with the removal of the snow
and how much they appreciate their efforts.
There are several factors involved, one being the dedicated employees of
the Public Works Department. The other is; the
Mayor and the Village board once again took a
proactiveapproach this year and had the
foresight to lock in a contract several months ago
with a salt provider. This contract insures the
Village of the much needed salt supply throughout
the season with priority status.
The price for the salt that was locked in months ago
is nearly one third of the cost that other
municipalities, who do not have a contract, are
paying now and aren't guaranteed if they can even
get any salt do to the heavy demand.
The
Public Works Department was also very hard at work,
after clearing the village streets, clearing
driveways of our seniors who are not physically
capable or do not have anyone to do it for them.
This has been a long running program in the Village
in aiding our seniors. Justice is one of a very few
municipalities in the area that have such a program
in place for its' seniors.
The Mayor, Clerk Svoboda and the Board of Trustee
would like to commend the Public Works Department
and all of its' employees on a job well done!
