On November 19, 2007
Congressman
Daniel Lipinski held a Town Hall meeting at the Lyons Township Hall
in Countryside. In attendance was Lyons Township supervisor Pat Rodgers, Lyons Township
Clerk Mary Jo Noohnan, Mayor Wasowicz, Trustees Kranig, Murray, McGee, Gabrys, and several
other area mayors and public officials. The meeting
started at 7:30 and ended at approximately 9:30.
The Congressman answered questions from constituents in attendance about
taxes, alternative energy sources, pollution, Iraq and
health care just to site a few. He explained there is
ongoing research for alternative fuel sources including
hydrogen which he is a strong proponent of. He went on
to state he endorsed a plan two years ago that could
bring the region 25 million in transportation projects
through the CREATE plan. Included in this CREATE
transportation plan would be additional funds in rail
transportation upgrades and modernization. Those funds
could be used for overpasses to alleviate railroad
crossing traffic tie ups. The CREATE plan is up for a
vote in an estimated 18 months. On the subject of Iraq
he related that he agrees with the Iraq Study Group in
telling the Iraqi government to take responsibility or aid
should be cut.
These were just a few of the issues that
the congressman addressed during this meeting. He said
he is dedicated to getting all of Congress , Democrats
and Republicans, to work together on all issues. The
filled to capacity room seemed very pleased with what
the Congressman had to say in regards to their questions
as well as his vision of where the country is going in
the near future. Many in the room gave praise to the
congressman for the job he has done in bringing badly
needed funds and programs to the 3rd district including
Justice.
On Monday,
November 12 the Village of Justice held its fall senior luncheon. It
was hosted by Mayor Wasowicz, Village Clerk Svoboda, trustees
Mary McGee and Mike Murray. Trustee Kranig was
unable to attend due to a recent leg injury. Trustees Berkowicz and
Jurgel were unable to attend due to work commitments.
The close to 80
seniors in attendance were treated to lunch that included baked
chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, sausage and sauerkraut, Swedish
meatballs and noodles, salad, rolls and a delectable assortment of
cakes, cookies and of course coffee.
The tables were
decorated in fall fashion and colors with harvest center pieces and
fall coffee mugs for all to take home. One lucky senior at every
table who sat down and had a special Village of Justice coffee mug
got to take home the center piece.
During their
lunch they were entertained by singer Kym Frankovelgia who sang a
wide array of memorable songs for the 30's, 40's, 50's and beyond.
She was quite entertaining as several of the seniors got up and
danced and many sang along to their favorites songs.
The seniors
enjoyed the fact that Mayor Wasowicz, Clerk Svoboda, trustees Murray
and McGee walked around to all the tables to talk to them, answer
their questions, listen to their concerns or just have a friendly
chat. It showed them that they are important and that the village
really cares about them and their wellbeing.
The seniors enjoyed themselves so much that many asked when the next
luncheon would be. Mayor Wasowicz asks all residents to do what they
can to help our seniors everyday in every way. They have earned it!
