At
September 22nd's Village Board Meeting, Mayor
Wasowicz and the Village Board proclaimed October as
"Rosary Hill Month". This is done to honor and
recognize Rosary Hill's efforts in not only for what
it does and has done for it's residents, but also
what it has done for the community as well.
On October 13, 2008, a luncheon was held at
Rosary Hill in
order to present Sister Natalie and all of Rosary Hill with the official
village proclamation. On hand for this ceremony
were, Mayor Wasowicz, Trustee Jeff Kranig, Clerk
Kathy Svoboda, with special guest, Lyons Township
Supervisor Pat Rodgers and Congressman Dan Lipinski.
Mayor Wasowicz presented the proclamation to Sister
Natalie. Clerk Kathy Svoboda presented Sister
Natalie and Rosary Hill a certificate of
appreciation for their sponsorship involvement with
this year's fest. Both Congressman Lipinski and
Lyons Township Supervisor Pat Rodgers addressed the
audience. Congressman Lipinski is running for
re-election and Pat Rodgers is running for judge in
the upcoming election on November 4th.
On
Friday, January 11, 2008 the village held an appreciation dinner
for all of the village employees.
The dinner was held at the Lipinski Community Center. Having the
dinner at the Lipinski Center saved the village over 50% of the
cost from previous years when the dinner was held at local
restaurants some years costing as much as $3000. If you don't
know the Lipinski center is available for rent for your
functions at very reasonable rates and the village this year
decided to take advantage of this fine facility and all it has
to offer. One of the highlights of the evening was when Mayor Wasowicz presented an
appreciation/achievement award to Mr. Ed Figura. This came as a
complete surprise to Mr. Figura. Mayor Wasowicz stated that
there is no one more deserving of this award then Mr. Figura,
who over the past several decades has done so much for the
village. His involvement with the Zoning and Planning
Commission, as a commissioner, and all of his volunteerism over
the years are of immeasurable value to the village and have
raised Mr. Figura to an iconic status among residents. This
recognition of Mr. Figura was long over due. Mr. Figura truly
represents what the statement "Be a part of your
community" is all about. Our sincerest congratulations and
thanks to Mr. Figura.
The Public Works Department honored one of its
employees with an "Employee
of the Year" award.
Mayor Wasowicz was in agreement with Public Works Director Phil
DePaola and graciously presented the "Public Works Employee Of
The Year" award to Mr. William Picman. Mr. Picman (Bill) has
been employed in the Public Works Department since 2003. Public
Works Director Phil DePaola said of Mr. Picman "He is an
outstanding employee, he is highly motivated, dedicated and
always shows a high level of professionalism on the job".
Congratulations Mr. William Picman.
Congressman
Lipinski was in attendance to congratulate the Mayor and all of
the village employees on the fine job they have done through out
the year. He also recognized the improvements and positive
changes within the village. He stated that he looks
forward to working with Mayor Wasowicz in assisting the village
in obtaining the badly need funds to keep the progress within the
village moving forward. Congressman Lipinski has been very
instrumental in assisting the village in the past in funding and
getting other lawmaker's attention to the needs of our village.
Mayor Wasowicz concluded the evening by thanking all of the village
employees for all their hard work, as well as their teamwork in
assisting the village in its turnaround. Our village has a
bright future and we will obtain our goals as long as we all
continue to work hard and work together. A special thanks to Clerk Kathy Svoboda, the village hall employees and the special events committee for their work on preparing and decorating for this event.
On Monday,
January 28, 2008 during the Village of
Justice Board of Trustees Meeting, Chief
Bockmann and assistant Chief Gedville
presented the 2007 Officer of the Year
Awards in several different categories.
The "Officer of the Year Award" went to Detective Robert Plotke.
Detective Plotke is a nine year veteran of
the Police Department.
The "Narcotics Enforcement Award" and the "Traffic
Enforcement Award" went to Corporal
Lucas Wyatt. Corporal Wyatt is a six year
veteran of the Police Department.
The "DUI Enforcement Award" went to Sergeant Mark Krummick.
Sergeant Krummick is a nine year veteran of
the Police Department.
This year an award was added to recognize
the hard work of the dispatch officers. The
"Telecommunications Service Award"
went to Officer TheresaDePaola.
Officer DePaola is a eleven year veteran of
the Police Department. Mayor Wasowicz, Clerk Svoboda, The Board of Trustees, Chief Bockmann
and Assistant Chief Gedville wish to
congratulate the awardees and thank them for
their hard work and dedication to the Police
Department and to the Village. They also
would like to recognize and thank all of the
Police Department Officers for their hard
work and dedication throughout the year as
well. Being a police officer is not an easy
job. It is a physically and mentally
demanding job. It takes a special kind of
person to endure the daily rigors of being a
police officer while maintaining the highest
level of professionalism in keeping our
community safe. Thank you all.
On Monday, December 1, 2008,
Russ
Hartigan took the oath of office, given by Township Clerk Mary
Jo Noohnan, to become the new Lyons Township Supervisor. He
replaces Pat Rodgers who won election for Judge in the
sub-circuit court of Cook County in November.
Russ Hartigan is a long time Lyons Township Trustee. He has served on the
finance committee, as well as other key committees. Mr.
Hartigan, in the past, served as a Trustee in Western Springs
for several years before becoming a Township Trustee.
Mr. Hartigan is a natural fit to fill the vacancy of Township
Supervisor with his many years of experience in public service.
Working along
side of former Supervisor Rodgers for many years will aid him in
his new role in running the daily affairs of the township.
He looks forward to the many challenges that face him in the
coming years in keeping the township running smoothly as it has
in the past.
Mr. Hartigan has been very instrumental in getting various needed funds
and programs for the village and will continue to do so.
Supervisor Hartigan (then a township trustee) was at the Ethnic Fest in
August and in support of the donation to the fest from the
township.
Mayor Wasowicz and the Trustees look forward to working with
Supervisor Hartigan and believe the he will be of great benefit
to the village and the township.
